inositol

inositol

n. a compound similar to glucose that occurs in many foods and is sometimes classed as a vitamin. It is a component of cell-membrane phospholipids and plasma lipoproteins, and phosphorylated derivatives (see inositol phosphates) function as second messengers in cells.
