infibulation

infibulation

n. the removal of the entire clitoris and most of the labia and sewing together the remaining tissue, leaving a small opening for menstruation and urination. It is practiced in some cultures as the most severe form of female genital mutilation, usually done during early childhood or the prepubertal years.
