induced hypothermia

induced hypothermia

the gradual reduction of body temperature by artificial means, usually for medical reasons. It is used, for example, in some surgical procedures (especially those involving the heart), to decrease the body’s need for oxygen, and in the treatment of neurological diseases causing a fever.
