n.

1. a sudden and compelling urge to act, often resulting in action without deliberation. Also called impulsion. See also impulse-control disorder; impulsive.

2. see nerve impulse.

3. in psychoanalytic theory, the expression of psychic energy from instinctual drives, such as sex and hunger.
