idiosyncratic reaction

idiosyncratic reaction

an unexpected reaction to a drug, resulting in effects that may be contrary to the anticipated results. The term generally refers to an extreme sensitivity or an extreme insensitivity to a particular agent. Such reactions may be genetically mediated.
