Hayflick limit

Hayflick limit

the finite number of times a cell is able to divide before undergoing programmed cell death. Discovered in 1961 by U.S. microbiologist Leonard Hayflick (1928–  ), the limit was subsequently proposed to occur when telomeres become too short for further division.
