geocentric theory

geocentric theory

the theory, attributed to Alexandrian astronomer, geographer, and mathematician Ptolemy (2nd century ce), that the earth is the center of the universe and that the heavenly bodies move around it. Also called Ptolemaic theory. Compare heliocentric theory.
