forewarning of persuasive intent

forewarning of persuasive intent

the receipt of information that a subsequent communication is intended to change the attitude of the recipient. This forewarning tends to decrease attitude change by predisposing elaboration against what is advocated in the message. See also biased elaboration; biasing factor.
