fenfluramine

n. a sympathomimetic agent, structurally related to the amphetamines, that functions as a serotonin agonist and was formerly used for management of obesity (see appetite suppressant). It was withdrawn from the U.S. market in 1997 due to the incidence of heart-valve abnormalities associated with its use.
