dummy variable coding

dummy variable coding

a method of assigning numerical values to a categorical variable in such a way that the variable reflects class membership. The values of 0 and 1 often are used, with 0 typically representing nonmembership and 1 typically representing membership. Compare contrast coding; effect coding.
