dorsal horn

dorsal horn

either of the upper regions of the H-shaped pattern formed by the periaqueductal gray in the spinal cord. The dorsal horns extend toward the dorsal roots and mainly serve sensory mechanisms. Also called posterior horn. Compare ventral horn.
