disturbance of association

interruption of a logical chain of culturally accepted thought, leading to apparently confused and haphazard thinking that is difficult for others to comprehend. It is one of the fundamental symptoms of schizophrenia described by Eugen Bleuler. See also schizophrenic thinking; thought disorder.
