communicating hydrocephalus

hydrocephalus in the absence of any blockage in the flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricular system. Cerebrospinal fluid passes freely from the brain into the spinal canal but is overproduced or abnormally or inadequately reabsorbed. Compare noncommunicating hydrocephalus.
