childhood schizophrenia

schizophrenia with onset prior to age 12; the defining features of schizophrenia are essentially equivalent across all age groups. Historically, the term has been used more widely to denote schizophrenic behavior that appears early in life, encompassing pervasive developmental disorders and autism in particular.
