butyrophenone

n. any of a class of high-potency antipsychotics used primarily in the treatment of schizophrenia, mania, and severe agitation. They are associated with numerous extrapyramidal symptoms, as well as neuroleptic malignant syndrome and tardive dyskinesia. The prototype is haloperidol.
