biogenic amine

biogenic amine

any of a group of amines that affect bodily processes and nervous system functioning. Biogenic amines are divided into subgroups (e.g., catecholamines, indoleamines) and include the neurotransmitters dopamine, epinephrine, histamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin.
