n.

1. a visual illusion that results from distortion of a perceived object. Often interpreted as threatening, apparitions may be associated with a neurological or toxic disorder, such as alcohol-induced psychotic disorder.

2. the perceived manifestation of a ghost or spirit. See also materialization; phantasm.

3. the act of becoming visible.
